When an Icon & Influencer (Re)Unite

We love when serendipity strikes and translates into social media gold – even more so when we’ve played a hand in it. Such was the case when our client, AARP's Disrupt Aging asked us to curate content and influencer coverage around a special event in Los Angeles this summer.

The event featured Disrupt Aging spokesperson and supermodel Beverly Johnson in a panel discussion about The Getty Center’s highly anticipated Icons of Style Exhibition (in which her iconic American Vogue cover is featured) and called for style-savvy social media influencers with soul and substance to amplify the conversation in a meaningful way. Naturally we knew the right women for the job - body positivity expert & stylist Laurie B Style and Vanichi founder/editor Joy Donnell - but little did we know that Donnell had had a life-altering encounter with Johnson years ago – and that the IRL reunion between the icon an the influencer would make for an amazing social media moment!

It went something like this:

Yeah. We know. That video garnered 10K+ views across multiple platforms, and the overall event amplification efforts by our influencers exceeded expectations; driving over 50% of social engagement during the event, and extending conversation far beyond the walls of the Getty Center.

Other highlights from the engagement included amazing blog posts from both Laurie and Joy on what Disrupt Aging means to them, and a custom stand-alone piece of content facilitated by WO with Beverly Johnson (on site at The Getty), which got mega engagement across Disrupt Aging owned channels when it was released last month.
